2025 Scholarship selection committee

PATHere.org is pleased to announce the members of its 2025 Scholarship Committee: Zenaida H. Maraví, Pilar Maraví, and Anjanette Velazco, who have the responsibility of evaluating the candidates and selecting the recipients of PATHere.org’s 2025 Scholarships. We thank each of the committee members for her efforts to further the goals of this educational program.

Zenaida H. Maraví, M.Ed.

Ms. Maraví was born in Peru and she holds a master’s degree in Early and Multicultural Education from Eastern University, Pennsylvania. Ms. Maraví worked for twenty years as a teacher in the Peruvian Ministry of Education in Lima, Peru. She relocated to the United States in 1983 and she served as the director of the Latin American Institute in Washington, D.C. In Pennsylvania, she worked as an adjunct professor in the Spanish and Portuguese Department of Temple University, and also in the Department of Foreign Languages of the Community College of Philadelphia. Ms. Maraví dedicated ten years of her professional experience and skills in social services as a coordinator and later as the director of the Family Social Services Department of El Concilio Hispano of Philadelphia.

Pilar Maraví, Ph.D.

Dr. Maraví was born in Lima, Peru. She graduated as an architect from the School of Architecture and Engineering Science of the Sacred Heart University for Women in Lima, Peru. Dr. Maraví relocated to the United States in 1996 and obtained a master’s degree and a doctorate in literature and medieval art from Temple University in Philadelphia. She is currently a professor at Thomas Jefferson, Temple and Arcadia universities in Pennsylvania and at Emory and Henry University in Virginia. Dr. Maraví authored the book Del Cielo a la tierra: Gonzalo de Berceo, Signos que aparecerán antes del Juicio Final, y sus Nexus con la Arquitectura Medieval Española, published in 2021.

Anjanette Velazco, MBA

Anjanette Velazco immigrated to the United States in 1995 from her native Peru. Ms. Velazco began her academic journey at the Community College of Philadelphia. She earned her associate’s degree in psychology and business administration from Manor College in Jenkintown. She completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of Phoenix, followed by a master’s degree in business management. In 2021, she earned a certification in Data Analytics and Visualization from the University of Pennsylvania. Ms. Velazco’s professional career began in 2004, first, as an outreach worker, and then, as the program coordinator for the Immunization Program of CONCILIO. In 2018, she joined the City of Philadelphia’s Municipal ID program as a manager, and in 2022 became the director of this citywide program. From the outset, Ms. Velazco has been committed to working closely with vulnerable communities across the city, and in particular, to supporting the local Peruvian community.
